Soil Soup...New at Good Earth.
How Does Your Garden Grow?

The soil consists of many good guys that make your plants grow. However, in our quest for bigger and better flowers and produce, we have depleted the good guys in the soil by the overuse of chemical fertilizers. To make matters worse, our native soil doesn't have the organic matter necessary for any existing good guys to build a healthy soil.

Soil Soup to the Rescue!

SoilSoup is a rich broth made from organic earthworm castings and other natural ingredients. Teeming with microscopic life, it works stimultating the growth of beneficial microorganisms in the soil. Easy to use, SoilSoup can be poured into a watering can or used with a sprayer.

For SoilSoup to be most effective, it should be used in a soil that has been amended with organic matter like Bumper Crop. The microorganisms break down dead plant material in the amended soil. These good guys turn organic material into humus, which releases nutrients for plants to absorb.

The nutrients that aren't used by the plant are absorbed by the soil. By using the SoilSoup, you provide a population of good guys that promotes soil that is "alive". Stop by today and pick up some SoilSoup to bring your soil back to life and get your garden growing! For more information on SoilSoup, visit their web site at www.soilsoup.com.
(Soil Soup available at Potomac Loaction only.)

Dear Deer

Are you fed up with having your yard be the nightly buffet for the neighborhood deer? Take a stand!

There are many products on the market that will work well to keep deer, rabbits and other pesky critters away from your beautiful garden. Good Earth highly recommends Liquid Fence. It works by smell and by taste. Liquid Fence should be re-applied every 4-6 weeks.

If the sprays are not your cup of tea, try using deer netting. This is especially effective when you are attempting to save an edible garden.

Milorganite Organic Fertilizer

An organic solution is using Milorganite Organic Fertilizer a low grade granular fertilizer that has an "off" smell to deer, deterring them and fertilizing your plants. It is safe to use on edibles and is an excellent summer lawn fertilizer. It can be applied anytime.

Click here for our most current list of deer resistant plants to use in your landscape. Remember, these are deer resistant, not deer proof. We’ve seen deer eat hollies in bitter winters.

The best way to combat deer is to use a combination of things. First plant shrubs and perennials they tend to avoid. Second, all your perennials and annuals you have that are not deer resistant should be sprayed with Liquid Fence . Third, sprinkle some Milorganite around your beds – this fertilizes your plants and adds another layer of security. You can protect your yard for less than $40 a year if done right.

So don’t fret the deer. Give them their "Dear Deer" letter and send them away!
